PLQ offers a new Suburban Orienteering series during 2014. Each event uses a full colour standard IOF 1:10K or 1:15K map of an entire suburb (or whatever will fit on a page of A4.) Based at a park so that we can offer something suitable for youngsters, the main event is a tour of the streets and reserves. We use every scrap of bush we can find, but there isn't a lot of bush-bashing.
This event is based at Discovery Park in southern Helensvale, and we have permission to use the Helensvale State School grounds next door to put together an entertaining Short course which crosses no roads. A new 1:4,000 IOF Standard sprint map of Discovery Park and Helensvale SS has been created for this event.
The longer courses will also use a brand new map of the entire suburb of Helensvale at 1:15,000 with heaps of alleyways, scraps of parkland and bush. Most of the running is on grass off the roads.
MTB Option
You are welcome to ride the long course on a mountain bike or sturdy off-road bicycle. This is an experiment for future suburban MTBO / Cycle-O events.
This "Legacy" event does not appear on Eventor.
