Orienteering Coaching Courses
An Orienteering Instructor Course is the entry level course and is suitable for teaching orienteering in a school or park environment. Learn and Play is required to take students into a bush environment.

There is a course for registered teachers, and another for Community members. The learning is the same but the prerequisites are slightly different.
Pre-requisites
There are no prerequisites for registered teachers. Members of the community are required to be members of Orienteering Australia and have a current Blue Card or exemption.

Basic training in orienteering instruction
This course is designed to cater for teachers, parents, or outdoor education centre staff wishing to introduce orienteering on schoolground and park maps. It is particularly recommended for teachers of Primary School children. The course is entirely sport specific, and has been developed by Orienteering Australia with funding from Sport Australia. This course underpins the other three coaching accreditations - Learn and Play, Competition Coach and Performance Coach.
Competency Statements
To achieve accreditation, Orienteering Instructor candidates must demonstrate the following competencies:
1. Select and implement basic sequential orienteering exercises within a teaching program
2. Identify resources, equipment and technology that can be used in the instruction of orienteering skills
Course duration
Approximately 4 hours. Participants receive a certificate upon completion of the course. Accreditation must be renewed every 5 years.
Cost
$66.00 (adults) or $44.00 for juniors (under 21) and full time students (under 25) which includes a hard copy of "Elementary Orienteering Instructor's Handbook" plus an electronic copy of "Orienteering Games" and "Games Orienteers Play". A hardcopy of Orienteering Games can be purchased at the course for the reduced price of $22. The course is free for full members of Orienteering Qld.

Learn and Play
Course dates
Can be arranged on any date suitable to the participants and the presenter. This course is designed by Orienteering Australia with funding from Sports Australia and accredited under the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme. It is designed for teachers and anyone who wishes to teach beginner orienteers/students in a bush environment.
A minimum of 4 participants is required.
Pre- and Co- requisites
Orienteering Instructor (can apply for Recognition of Prior Learning)
Member of Orienteering Australia
Blue Card/Exemption Card or equivalent
Demonstrated competency at moderate standard bush navigation

Competency Statements
To achieve accreditation, Learn and Play Orienteering Coach candidates must demonstrate the following competencies:
1. Select, plan, prepare, deliver, and evaluate activities to facilitate development of orienteering with Learn and Play participants
2. Demonstrate inclusive orienteering coaching practices, modifying a coaching activity where required for participants of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and gender
3. Apply principles of risk management to the organisation and delivery of orienteering coaching activities

Accreditation
Upon satisfactory completion of all requirements, candidates receive OA Learn and Play Orienteering coaching Accreditation Certificate and NCAS ID card. Accreditation must be renewed every 5 years.

$88.00 adults; $66.00 for juniors (under 21) and full time students (under 25). No cost for full members of Orienteering Qld.
