There was lots of fun and learning at the Mini Cyclones camp last weekend near Maroon Dam.
The camp was two years in the planning (as a result of postponement due to Covid last year) but was a huge success - just look at the smiles on the kids faces and read the Feedback Comments from the Camp.
Forty two keen young orienteers aged 10-16, were given training to become more confident on Moderate courses. They learnt about reading contour lines and good compass work from the expert coaches.
It was a busy camp with training beginning on Saturday at Brightview before heading off to Boonah State High School for some sprint training and then on to Maroon Dam. Two courses on Sunday around Maroon Outdoor Education Centre built up orienteering skills which were then put to the test on Monday in the Camp Champs at Cotswold.
A huge thank you to Marion Burrill, all the coaches and support team for all their hard work in planning and running the camp and for building the skills of the next generation of orienteers!
Marion's Camp Review is a wonderful overview of the camp and is a testament to her dedication to skill development in our young orienteers. A three day camp for over 100 people with 6 orienteering activities takes a huge amount of organization plus the help from a dedicated group of parents and volunteers.
