Scouts & Orienteering Team Up

Last Sunday a group of about 20 scouts and leaders enjoyed an orienteering activity at Baden Powell Park, Samford.
Scouting Queensland (SQ) Branch Commissioner (Adult Training and Development), Bryan Brown, requested the activity as part of their annual training team conference. Orienteering was one of three concurrent activities during their multi-day program.
This activity continues the work that Alex Mair (Regional Commissioner - Moreton Region) and Orienteering Queensland (OQ) Junior Development Officer Gordon Bossley are doing to bring OQ and SQ to a strong working relationship around supporting good navigation instruction and encouraging orienteering as a scouting activity to support the development of navigation skills.
The hope is that this activity lays the groundwork for the development of a routine of "Level 0 Coach" training for scout leaders Australia wide.
It is also hoped that OQ in conjunction with Orienteering Australia and the other orienteering state bodies can support Scouting Australia to develop an Orienteering Activity badge - encouraging youth participants to try orienteering.
