QLD Jukola - An overwhelming Success

The inaugural Queensland Jukola Relay, held at Wivenhoe Dam as an end of year break-up celebration for our Junior Orienteers was a huge success.
Six evenly matched teams of three runners lined up at dusk last Saturday evening. The Easy course runners led off on their 1.6km course just as the sun was going down. When they returned, the teams Medium and Hard leg runners headed out in total darkness navigating around their 3.5km and 5km courses by torchlight. As these intrepid orienteers returned, the whole team then went out on a final 700m course navigated only by their Easy course runner.

Event Organizer Brenton Gray had selected the relay teams to create the most interest and give everyone an equal chance at winning. In a surprise 'come from behind' attack, the winning team was Caroline Pigerre (Ugly Gully), Callum Bell (Range Runners) and Felicity Crosato (Range Runners)!
The next day, after a warm night sleeping in tents around the lake, these young orienteers headed out on a training event, involving navigating their courses without the aid of compasses.
A huge thank you to Brenton and everyone involved in making a fun weekend happen.
